Mobile home where a man was found deceased early Thursday morning was destroyed by fire.

One person died in a residential structure fire at 545 Eller Road in the Purlear community early Thursday morning, stated a press release from the Wilkes Sheriff’s Office.

Firefighters located a deceased person inside the remains of a mobile home. The person was identified by the sheriff’s office Tuesday morning as Dennis Dean Eller, 62. An autopsy was conducted, as often is the case in a fatal fire.

“This is an active fire investigation being conducted by the Wilkes County fire marshal’s office, Wilkes Sheriff’s Office and State Bureau of Investigations,” stated a sheriff’s office press release said.

The Millers Creek, Champion and Cricket fire departments were dispatched to the structure fire a little before 2 a.m. Thursday. The mobile home was completely destroyed in the fire.

The person who reported the fire said she could see flames coming from the structure, which was known to be occupied.

Eller Road is a short road that connects with Parsonsville Road on the southwest and with New Hope Road on the northwest.
